Economics carries the code 0455, and Cambridge publishes syllabus documents for specific ranges of exam years. The material you need is the material written for your range. Your exam centre confirms your exam year, and the Cambridge 0455 page shows which document covers it.
This page is part of the exam guide section. It does not state what changed from one range to the next. It shows where Cambridge states it, so you read it yourself.
Who is responsible for what?
- Cambridge publishes each syllabus and any advance notice of changes.
- Your exam centre or school enters you for one exam year and confirms it to you.
- You and your family check that notes, textbooks and diagrams belong to that year.
We are a tuition team, not an exam centre. We do not enter candidates, so we teach to the year you confirm with your centre.
What should you check, step by step?
- Ask your centre for your exam year. Write it on the front of your file.
- Open the Cambridge 0455 page. Find the syllabus document whose year range covers yours.
- Read the content list and learning objectives. They state what you must be able to explain or calculate.
- Sort your materials into two piles. The first pile names a syllabus year that covers your year. The second names another year, or none.
- Compare the second pile with the syllabus topic by topic before you use it.
- Read the notices on that page and on the Cambridge syllabus changes page.
The syllabus-version comparison viewer shows verified differences with their source and year, and it warns when a resource is older than your profile.
A short worked example
Priya has a textbook and a set of online notes. The textbook prints its syllabus year on page one, and it covers her exam year. The notes print nothing.
She moves the notes to the check-first pile. She picks three topics from the notes, finds each in her syllabus content list and ticks the matches. Two match and one is not there, so she asks her teacher about that one.
What are the common mistakes?
Copying a diagram without its assumptions. A diagram is useful only with its conditions stated. Write the assumptions beside each one you keep.
Using mark-scheme habits from another year. Structure and command words can differ. Check the syllabus for your year.
Treating opinion as content. Your syllabus tests economic reasoning and evidence, and it does not ask you to hold a political view.
Where next?
The Economics learning guide gives the topic map, and the 0455 code page summarises the code. For help stating assumptions and evidence in your answers, see Economics tuition.
Keep a short note at the front of your file with three items: your exam year, the syllabus document you use and the date you checked it. When Cambridge updates the subject page, you know exactly what to recheck.
