We offer online one-to-one Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606) tuition for students anywhere in Malaysia. After your WhatsApp enquiry, an experienced teacher is assigned to you. You then take a paid one-hour trial at that teacher’s confirmed rate, starting from RM80. It is a real lesson on your own questions, and the rate is confirmed before it begins.
Who is this tuition for?
The students who ask us about Additional Mathematics usually share one pattern: they can follow worked examples but struggle to start an unfamiliar, multi-step question. The class goes smoothly. Then the homework or a past-style question looks different from anything in the notes, and nothing obvious comes to mind.
This tuition may suit you if:
- you understand each line when the teacher writes it, but cannot say why that line was chosen;
- you know the formulae for differentiation or the discriminant, yet do not recognise when a question needs them;
- your algebra slips under longer working, for example with brackets, fractions or signs, and the slip ruins a correct method;
- your class moves quickly and you would like the pace set by your own gaps;
- you are a parent who can see your child working hard but finishing questions half-done.
It may be unnecessary if you already start new questions calmly and only need more practice. In that case the original practice sets and the learning guide may be enough for now.
What can one-to-one teaching change?
Additional Mathematics questions are rarely hard because of one difficult step. They are hard because you must decide which idea the question is asking for before any calculation starts. A teacher working with one student can watch that decision happen, and find where it fails.
Here is an original example of the difference between routine substitution and method selection.
Question A (routine): Find the value of 2x² − 5x + 1 when x = 3.
Substitute: 2(9) − 15 + 1 = 4. There is one instruction and one method. Most students get this right.
Question B (method selection): The line y = 2x + k is a tangent to the curve y = x² − 4x + 7. Find the value of k.
Nothing in the question says “use the discriminant”. The word that matters is tangent, meaning the line touches the curve at exactly one point. So the approach is:
- Set the two expressions equal: x² − 4x + 7 = 2x + k.
- Rearrange to one side: x² − 6x + (7 − k) = 0.
- One touching point means a repeated root, so the discriminant is zero: (−6)² − 4(1)(7 − k) = 0.
- Solve: 36 − 28 + 4k = 0, so 4k = −8 and k = −2.
Check: the line is y = 2x − 2. The repeated root is x = 3, where the curve gives y = 9 − 12 + 7 = 4 and the line gives y = 6 − 2 = 4. The gradient of the curve, 2x − 4, is also 2 at x = 3. Both views agree.
A student who is stuck might try x = 0, which gives k = 7. That is routine substitution applied to a question that needed a decision. With k = 7 the line cuts the curve at two points, so it is not a tangent. A teacher can point at the exact moment the word “tangent” was skipped, and teach the habit of asking “what does this word mean for the number of solutions?” before writing anything.
That habit is the aim of our lessons. We work on the recognition step, then the algebra, then the layout of working so that method marks are visible.
What are the honest limits?
One-to-one teaching cannot do the practice for you. Method selection improves through repeated attempts at unfamiliar questions, with a teacher correcting how you start, not only the answer. The student still needs to try questions between lessons.
We also cannot tell you what your school will teach or when. The examination-year specification, calculator rules and given formulae are set by Cambridge, so check the Cambridge 0606 page for your exam year. Our syllabus and exam-year navigator helps you keep track of what to confirm.
How do enquiry, assignment and the trial work?
- Enquire on WhatsApp. Tell us you want Additional Mathematics, and anything useful such as your year and what feels hardest. You choose what to share.
- We assign an experienced teacher. We look at the subject and the help you describe, and assign a teacher. The teacher’s rate for the paid trial is confirmed with you before the lesson.
- Attend the paid one-hour trial. It is a taught lesson, from RM80 at the assigned teacher’s confirmed rate. Use the trial agenda builder to choose two sticking points to bring.
- Decide afterwards. After the trial, fees, schedule, support and ongoing arrangements are confirmed directly between you and the teacher. The post-trial reflection guide gives you questions to ask.
More detail is on the how it works and paid trial pages.
What about pace, if I need to revisit algebra first?
This is the question we hear most. Will the pace suit a student who needs to revisit algebra before advanced questions?
In one-to-one lessons the pace follows the student, not the class. If algebra is the gap, the teacher can start there, using the kind of algebra that Additional Mathematics actually uses: rearranging, factorising, handling fractions and restrictions. Advanced topics then sit on firmer ground. How long that takes is something you and the teacher agree after the trial, once there is something real to base it on.
You can also check your own starting point first. The Additional Mathematics considering-tuition guide has a short algebra readiness check, and the lesson focus guide helps you choose what the first lesson should tackle.
Who has used the service?
9,000+ students have been helped through our service across IGCSE subjects. That figure covers the whole service, not Additional Mathematics alone. We are a team of teachers who care about how each student learns, and we would rather you judge the fit on the paid trial than on a number.
Where do I start learning now?
While you decide, these pages are free to read and built to teach:
- the Additional Mathematics learning guide, with every topic in a study order;
- the 0606 code and exam-year guide, so you know what to check with Cambridge and your school;
- functions and restrictions, quadratic structure and discriminants and differentiation techniques, which carry a large share of multi-step questions;
- the help pages for starting a proof and ignoring domain restrictions;
- the non-calculator working trainer and the quadratic structure explorer.
When you are ready, use the enquiry button on this page to ask about Additional Mathematics tuition on WhatsApp.
