Check your IGCSE code and exam year

Two students can sit the same subject under different codes, and the difference decides what to study.

A Cambridge IGCSE subject is identified by a four-digit code, and a syllabus applies to specific examination years. Studying from the wrong code or the wrong year wastes revision time, so this is the first thing to settle.

Why do codes and years matter?

Some subjects exist in more than one version. English as a Second Language and Mathematics, for example, have separate codes with different assessment designs. Syllabuses are also updated, so content that was examined one year may be changed or removed in the next.

Your school or exam centre enters you for a specific code in a specific series. That entry decides what you study.

How do you find your code?

  1. Ask your school or exam centre for the exact subject code and the exam series you are entered for.
  2. Search for that code on the Cambridge subject page and open the syllabus that lists your exam year.
  3. Confirm the assessment details there. Do not rely on memory or on a friend’s information.

The syllabus and exam-year navigator helps you record what you found. The syllabus-version comparison viewer helps you compare two syllabus years side by side.

What are the code guides on this page?

The cards below list each subject code we teach. Each guide explains what the code covers, how it differs from related codes, and what to check on the Cambridge page before you commit to a study plan. We do not state paper numbers, durations, weightings or grade thresholds unless we can point to the source, because they change.

Who is responsible for what?

Cambridge sets the syllabus and assessment.

Your school or exam centre handles registration, entries, results and access arrangements. We are not an exam centre, and we teach to the syllabus you confirm. See the exam guidance section for how the assessment works.
