Cambridge lists a Geography 0460 syllabus for 2027 to 2029 alongside the guidance that applies to earlier exam years. A student sitting 0460 before 2027 and a student sitting it later may read different documents. Your exam centre tells you your exam year, and the Cambridge 0460 page shows which document covers it.
This page sits in the exam guide section. It does not list the changes. It shows how to find and read them in the official source.
Who is responsible for what?
- Cambridge publishes each syllabus and its change notes.
- Your exam centre or school enters you for one exam year and tells you how fieldwork or the alternative assessment is handled.
- You and your family check that notes, atlases and data practice belong to your year.
We are a tuition team, not an exam centre. Your centre handles entry, so the answer comes from them.
What should you check, step by step?
- Confirm your exam year with your centre. Write it on the front of your file.
- Open the Cambridge 0460 page. Find the syllabus document whose years cover yours.
- Read the content list for your year and compare it with your topic notes.
- Read the assessment section, including the component that covers fieldwork or its alternative.
- Open the 2027 to 2029 syllabus if your exam year falls in that range, and note what it says about changes.
- Read the notices on the Cambridge syllabus changes page.
The syllabus-version comparison viewer shows verified changes with their source and year, so a later-year requirement never appears as a current one.
A short worked example
Mei Ling finds a thread saying “the paper now asks for mapped data answers”. She cannot tell which year it means. She looks for a syllabus year in the post, finds none and labels it “unchecked”.
She then opens the syllabus for her exam year and reads the assessment section. The thread’s claim is either there or it is not, and she notes the page where she found out. That note is worth more than the thread.
What are the common mistakes?
Using case-study facts without dates. Write the date and source beside each fact, then check it fits a topic in your year’s content.
Copying advice across years. A tip for one year’s paper may not suit another. Match it to your syllabus.
Assuming fieldwork is the same for everyone. Your centre confirms how your group is assessed, as in the practical and coursework route check.
Where next?
The Geography learning guide gives the topic map, and the 0460 code page summarises the code. For help reading maps and data against your year’s syllabus, see Geography tuition.
Keep a source note with each set of notes: the syllabus year, the document page and the date you checked. When a teacher helps you later, that note saves time because you already know what has been verified and what has not.
