Students in Terengganu can have online one-to-one Cambridge IGCSE tuition at home. A teacher is assigned to you, lessons run over video, and we have no branches or centres in Terengganu.
One practical point sets Terengganu apart from several other states: its weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, and the school week runs from Sunday to Thursday. Anyone planning lessons should start from that, because a “weekend lesson” means something different here than in a state with a Saturday and Sunday weekend.
Which districts and towns do we serve?
Students join from across Besut, Dungun, Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Setiu and Kuala Nerus. The towns most often mentioned are Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Dungun, Kemaman, Marang, Besut and Setiu, and the lesson works the same way in each.
The state stretches along the east coast from Besut in the north to Kemaman in the south, so distances between towns are long. Online lessons mean that stretch of coast makes no difference to which teacher you can be assigned.
How do I plan lesson days around a Sunday to Thursday week?
Start by listing which days are school days and which are free. Friday and Saturday are the natural days for a longer revision session, while a school-day evening suits a shorter lesson on one topic.
If a friend in another state has a Saturday and Sunday weekend, their lesson times will not suit you, and the reverse is also true. Say this plainly when you message us, and give your school’s actual timetable so the teacher can suggest slots that fit.
Check your school’s own calendar for term dates and holidays, because those come from the school, not from us.
Preparing for an online lesson
Try the online-lesson readiness check at the hour you plan to study. Coastal and rural areas can have weaker signal at some times of day, so keep a mobile hotspot as a second way to connect.
Sit where you can write freely, with paper and a pen. A phone camera pointed at handwritten working makes Maths and Science lessons much easier to follow.
When does a lesson make sense rather than self-study?
If you can fix your own mistakes from a mark scheme, self-study may be all you need. A teacher becomes useful when you read the answer and still do not see why yours was wrong.
Bring one such question to the trial. A teacher can ask you to explain your working aloud, find the exact step that went wrong and rebuild from there. Our guide to choosing between tuition options may help you decide.
Exam centre: what to ask your own centre
Registration, entry, results and access arrangements belong to your school or centre and to Cambridge. Questions worth asking:
- Which exam series am I entered for, and when does entry close?
- If I am a private candidate, which centre will accept me and at what cost?
- Where will any practical or speaking components be held?
The private-candidate readiness checklist helps you keep the answers together, and our exam guidance explains who does what.
