Privacy questions to ask before class

Online lessons bring a stranger into your child's study space, and it is reasonable to want to know how contact will work.

  1. What is the real concern?
  2. Questions to ask the teacher or us
  3. How do you set up the room and device?
  4. What do we do with information you send us?
  5. What if an answer is unclear?
  6. Next steps

Ask your questions before the first lesson, and write the answers down. Privacy and communication are easy to sort out at the start, and harder to raise later once routines have formed.

This page gives you a checklist for the responsible adult and a short readiness routine for the student’s device and room.

What is the real concern?

Most parents are not worried about the teaching. They want to know who can contact their child, where the conversation happens and what is kept afterwards. These are fair questions for any online service, and a good teacher expects them.

You do not need to ask every question. Choose the ones that matter to your family.

Questions to ask the teacher or us

Use these at the WhatsApp stage or at the start of the paid trial.

Contact

  • Which channel will you use for schedule messages, and who receives them?
  • Will you message my child directly, or only me?
  • What are the hours when messages are answered?

During the lesson

  • How will the lesson be run, and what does my child need to have ready?
  • Will other people be present or listening?
  • How does my child show written work, and what stays on screen?

Materials and records

  • What will be shared during or after the lesson, and through which channel?
  • Will anything be stored, and if so, by whom and for how long?
  • Can I ask for something not to be kept, and how is that confirmed?

Arrangements beyond the trial are confirmed directly with the teacher, so answers differ by teacher. What you can expect is a clear answer from the teacher, which you can note and keep.

How do you set up the room and device?

The online lesson readiness check works in your browser and stores nothing on our servers. It asks what device, writing method and audio setup your child will use, then gives you practical tests and alternatives.

For example, a student who declines microphone access can still follow a lesson through typed messages and written work, so the tool offers a non-audio route. It does not inspect hardware in detail, and it does not claim that a public study venue will allow calls without checking.

A simple room routine works well:

  1. Quiet space, with a door or at least a low-traffic corner.
  2. Adult within reach, at least for the first lesson.
  3. Charged device, tested the day before.
  4. Paper and pen ready, in case the screen is not a good way to show working.

What do we do with information you send us?

Enquiries come through WhatsApp, and the team handles those messages to arrange tuition. Our privacy practices follow the principles of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

The website tools run in your browser and do not send your entries to our servers, and aggregate analytics may be used to see how the site is used. The privacy page has the full description, and what public learning tools do not collect explains the tool side.

What if an answer is unclear?

Ask again in writing. A clear answer should fit in one or two sentences. If it does not, tell the teacher that you would like to settle it before the lesson continues.

Fees, schedule and ongoing arrangements are agreed directly after the trial. The trial is a one-hour taught class at the assigned teacher’s confirmed rate, starting from RM80, and you can read how it works.

If your child is under 18, read who should confirm a minor’s lesson arrangement and involving a parent or guardian in a minor’s arrangements. Otherwise, return to the parents’ guide.

Questions people ask

Who should my child contact if they need to change a lesson time?

Agree this with the teacher at or before the trial. Many families name one adult contact for schedule messages and let the student message only about the lesson content. Write down the agreed channel so everyone uses the same one.

Can I ask the teacher not to use my child's full name or photo?

You can ask for any reasonable preference, for example that the student is addressed by a first name and that nothing is shared outside the lesson. Raise it at the start and confirm the answer in writing in your WhatsApp thread.

Should my child use a personal social media account to contact the teacher?

It is sensible to avoid it. Keep communication to the channel the responsible adult has agreed. Teaching arrangements with us are made through WhatsApp, and the adult can see how contact is handled.

How do I prepare the device and room for the first lesson?

Run the online lesson readiness check on the device the student will use. It gives local practical tests and alternatives, and a declined microphone permission still leaves a non-audio route. Choose a quiet spot where an adult can be nearby.
