Prepare linked difficulties for a one-hour trial

You know something is wrong in your science revision, but a whole hour is short for everything.

Linked difficulties are problems in different sciences that share one underlying skill. Preparing them before a one-hour trial means the lesson starts on your real gap instead of on introductions. It is the last step of 0653 revision and route planning.

Look at your mistake log and ask what the failed steps have in common.

  1. List three wrong answers from different sciences.
  2. Underline the step that failed in each, not the topic.
  3. Group by skill: reading a graph, rearranging a formula, using units, explaining a cause in words.
  4. Choose the group with the most entries, and bring one question for each.

Worked example

Invented log entries.

Chemistry: the volume of gas collected in a reaction was 36 cm³ after 90 s, and the student wrote “rate = 90 ÷ 36”. Physics: a trolley travelled 36 m in 90 s, and she wrote “speed = 90 ÷ 36”. Biology: an enzyme product reached 36 units in 90 s, and the rate was again written upside down.

The link: all three are “amount ÷ time”, inverted. The shared skill is reading a rate as change per unit time.

The correct working: chemistry 36 cm³ ÷ 90 s = 0.4 cm³/s. Physics 36 m ÷ 90 s = 0.4 m/s. Biology 36 units ÷ 90 s = 0.4 units/s. Check: 0.4 × 90 = 36.

Three topics, one skill. The trial can spend an hour on it, with one example from each science.

What is the mistake to watch for?

Bringing a broad request such as “I need help with everything”.

Mistaken brief: “Please teach me all of chemistry, physics and biology.”

No hour can do that, and the teacher cannot tell where your reasoning slips.

The correction is a short list with working: three difficulties, one failed question each, and your own words on what confused you.

Check yourself

1. Three wrong answers: a rate in chemistry, a speed in physics, a growth rate in biology. What is the linked skill?

Show answer

Reading a rate as change divided by time.

2. 45 cm³ of gas in 90 s. What is the rate?

Show answer

45 ÷ 90 = 0.5 cm³/s. Check: 0.5 × 90 = 45.

3. Why bring your own working and not only the question?

Show answer

The working shows which step fails. A correct answer key only shows that the final answer was wrong.

Questions people ask

How many difficulties should I bring?

Bring two or three, ideally linked by one underlying skill. An hour is enough to work properly on a few difficulties, and not enough to cover a whole syllabus.

What should I bring besides the list?

Bring one question you got wrong in each difficulty, with your own working, plus your mistake log. Seeing your reasoning lets the teacher find the exact step that fails.

What does the trial cost?

The trial is a paid one-hour class starting from RM80, at the assigned teacher's confirmed rate, which is told to you before the lesson. Later arrangements are agreed directly between you and the teacher after the trial.
