Yes, you can ask for a teaching language, and the simplest place to do it is in your first WhatsApp message. Say which language your child learns most easily in, and we will reply with what can be arranged before the trial.
What cannot change is the exam language. Cambridge IGCSE papers are answered in English, so every lesson includes English terms, even when an idea is first explained in another language.
Why would a parent request BM or Chinese?
Many students learn faster when a new idea is first explained in the language they think in. A student who struggles with “upper bound” may understand “had atas” straight away, and then link it to the English term.
Other families simply feel more comfortable discussing learning in BM or Chinese at home. That is a fair reason too.
What stays in English?
Everything the exam will ask about. That means:
- The terms on the syllabus, such as “mole ratio”, “supply curve” or “simultaneous equations”.
- The command words in questions, like “explain”, “compare” and “suggest”.
- The written answers, since these are assessed in English.
For English Language or French, the assessed language stays in that language throughout. A second language can only support the explanation. See keeping the assessed language clear in resources for how to check this in any material your child uses.
What should you write in the first message?
Keep it short and specific. For example:
Subject: Chemistry, Year 10. My child understands better in Chinese but the exam is in English. Could the teacher explain in Chinese and show the English terms? Exam date: November.
That tells us the subject, the language request and the reason. We reply with what can be arranged, and the rate for the trial is confirmed before the lesson.
What should you ask about the lesson language?
- Can the teacher explain ideas in the language I have asked for?
- Will the English exam terms be shown alongside?
- How will my child practise writing answers in English?
- What happens if my child wants to change language later?
Teaching language and later arrangements are discussed directly with the teacher after the trial, along with fees and schedule.
How can you prepare your child at home?
The English, BM and Chinese concept bridge pairs a term with a short example in all three languages. Your child can look up a term before the lesson and bring questions.
It does not promise that a teacher is available in a given language. It helps your child connect what they know to what the exam will ask. To see how the trial works, read the paid trial in BM or Chinese and how the trial works.
