IGCSE tuition is extra teaching, outside school, that follows the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus for a subject. It helps a student repair a specific gap, prepare for the papers or work through questions that class did not have time for.
This page explains the idea in plain terms, so you can decide whether it suits your child before you contact anyone.
What is Cambridge IGCSE?
Cambridge describes the IGCSE as a qualification for students aged 14 to 16, with a choice of more than 70 subjects. Assessment takes place at the end of the course and can include written, oral, coursework and practical components.
Many subjects have Core and Extended curricula. Grades run from A* to G, with results released in August and January. Our guide to exam series and results explains the timing.
Who is IGCSE tuition for?
It suits a student who can name something they cannot yet do, such as a topic that keeps going wrong. It also suits a student who wants someone to check their reasoning, or who is working across several subjects with limited time.
It may not be needed if the student is on track and can work through past papers independently. Read when self-study can be enough and school and tuition roles to check.
How does online one-to-one tuition work here?
- Enquiry. You send us a WhatsApp message with the subject, level and what is going wrong.
- Assignment. An experienced teacher is assigned to the student. You can read how in the teacher assignment process.
- Paid one-hour trial. The rate is confirmed before the lesson and starts from RM80.
- Review. After the trial, you and the teacher decide whether and how to continue.
- Later arrangements. Fees, schedule and support are agreed directly between student and teacher.
The full walk-through is on how it works.
What happens in a typical lesson?
The student brings a topic, a question set or a recent mistake. The teacher asks the student to explain their working aloud, finds the step where it slips and teaches that step.
The student then tries a similar question without help. The hour ends with a note of what to practise before the next lesson. Each lesson responds to what the student shows.
How long might a student need tuition?
It depends on three things: the size of the gap, the time before the exam and how much practice the student does between lessons. Duration and results depend on the student.
Think in decision points instead of weeks.
| Decision point | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| After the trial | Did the student understand something new, and was the teacher’s way of working clear? |
| After the first topic is secure | Is there another topic that needs the same work, or can the student continue alone? |
| A few weeks before the exam | What is the most useful use of the remaining time? |
| After results | Is a retake, a new subject or the next programme the focus? |
