Business Studies 0450 or Business 0264 for your year

A guide labelled Business Studies may not match your course, and a change of title makes the gap easy to miss.

Cambridge has one subject page for Business Studies 0450 and another for Business 0264. The Business page identifies 0264 as the course for first assessment in 2027. Which one you sit depends on your exam year and entry, and your exam centre confirms both.

This page sits in the exam guide section. It does not list what changed between the two courses. It shows where Cambridge lists them, so you work from the source and not from hearsay.

Who is responsible for what?

  • Cambridge publishes each syllabus and states the years it covers.
  • Your exam centre or school enters you under one code for one exam year.
  • You and your family check that notes, books and past-paper practice belong to that same code.

We are a tuition team, not an exam centre. Your centre handles entry, and we teach to the year or code you confirm.

What should you verify, step by step?

  1. Get your code and exam year from your centre. Write “0450” or “0264” on the front of your file.
  2. Open the matching Cambridge page. Use the 0264 page or the 0450 page.
  3. Find the syllabus whose year range covers your exam year. The 0264 syllabus document is listed for the 2027 to 2029 range.
  4. Read the content and assessment sections of that document, and any note about changes from the earlier course.
  5. Label your materials. Anything that does not state its syllabus year goes into a “check first” pile.
  6. Read the update notices on the Cambridge syllabus changes page.

The syllabus-version comparison viewer flags a transition check when a 2027 entry is paired with 0450 guidance, and it does not hand over an older-year guide as if it were current.

A short worked example

Daniel has a revision book titled “Business Studies”. His centre tells him he is entered for 0264. He opens the 0264 page, finds the syllabus and lists five topic headings from its content section.

He then checks the book’s contents page against that list. Three headings match, one is missing from the book and one is in the book but not in the syllabus. He marks the gaps and asks his teacher which to prioritise.

What are the common mistakes?

Trusting the subject name. “Business Studies” and “Business” look like one subject, yet the codes differ.

Assuming the exam year. Confirm it with your centre, as in checking sessions and local deadlines.

Reading a mention of March as a Malaysian entry. Cambridge text about a series does not show which series your centre offers. Your centre confirms that.

Where next?

The Business learning guide follows one hub with version-aware notes, and the 0450 and 0264 code pages summarise each code. To compare your notes with the right syllabus alongside a teacher, see Business tuition.

Questions people ask

Is Business 0264 the same as Business Studies 0450?

Do not assume so. Cambridge gives each its own code and subject page, and lists 0264 as Business for first assessment in 2027. Whether your notes carry over has to be checked against the syllabus for your code and exam year, not against the subject name.

Which code am I entered for?

Your exam centre or school knows, and the code is printed on your statement of entry. If you cannot find it, ask the centre before you buy a book or start a new set of notes.

Can I keep using my 0450 revision book?

Only if your exam year and code are covered by the 0450 syllabus. If you are entered under 0264, compare the book with the 0264 syllabus and read what Cambridge says about changes. Check on the Cambridge subject page, not on the book cover.

Does your team decide the code for my entry?

No. The exam centre enters you, and Cambridge publishes both syllabuses. We teach to the code you tell us.

Your next step

If you are not sure whether your notes follow 0450 or 0264, a teacher can compare them with the Cambridge document for your code in a paid one-hour trial and mark the differences.

Paid one-hour trial at your assigned teacher’s confirmed rate, starting from RM80. Other fees, schedules and ongoing arrangements are confirmed directly with your teacher after the trial class.
