This page is a short mixed set of original questions, ordered from easier to harder, with a full explanation behind each answer. For a longer set on one topic, use the module practice sets listed at the end. The original mixed-practice builder assembles a printable session from reviewed questions when a bank is available.
Try each question before opening the answer. Menu names vary between software versions, so the answers describe the task, not one product.
Questions
1. Easier. A clinic form has a field for age. Name one validation check that suits this field and give a value it would reject.
Show answer
A range check: accept whole numbers from 0 to 120. It would reject 250, because it is outside the range. A type check would also reject the text “ten”.
2. Easier. A student renames holiday.docx to holiday.pdf and says the file is now a PDF. Is this correct?
Show answer
No. Renaming changes only the label. The contents are still encoded as a word-processing file. A real conversion uses Save As or Export, and the result should be reopened to confirm it.
3. Easier. Cell E1 holds a tax rate of 0.06. C2 contains =B2*$E$1 and is copied down to C4. What formula appears in C4?
Show answer
=B4$E$1*. The relative reference B2 moves down two rows to B4. The absolute reference $E$1 does not change.
4. Middle. Cell B2 holds 50. What does =IF(B2>=50,“Pass”,“Fail”) show, and why?
Show answer
It shows Pass. The test is “greater than or equal to 50”, and 50 meets it. Writing > instead of >= would show Fail, a boundary slip worth testing with values just below and above 50.
5. Middle. A student table contains these rows: Aina, Form 4, 72. Bala, Form 5, 65. Chen, Form 4, 58. Dewi, Form 4, 60. Emir, Form 4, 81. A query asks for Form = 4 AND Mark >= 60, sorted by Mark from highest to lowest. List the result.
Show answer
Bala fails the Form test and Chen fails the Mark test. The rows left are Aina (72), Dewi (60) and Emir (81). Sorted highest first: Emir 81, Aina 72, Dewi 60.
6. Middle. A company replaces its stock system by switching off the old one on Monday and starting the new one on Tuesday. Which implementation method is this, and name one risk.
Show answer
It is direct implementation. A risk is that if the new system fails there is nothing to fall back on. Phased or parallel methods reduce that risk but take more time.
7. Harder. A table in a flyer has four columns of width 4.0 cm, 4.5 cm, 3.5 cm and 4.5 cm. The page is 21.0 cm wide with 2.5 cm margins on each side. What happens, and what is one fix?
Show answer
Text width is 21.0 − 2.5 − 2.5 = 16.0 cm. The table is 4.0 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 4.5 = 16.5 cm, so it overflows by 0.5 cm and may be cut off in print or export. One fix is to reduce the columns to 3.8, 4.4, 3.4 and 4.4 cm, which total 16.0 cm. Then check print preview.
8. Harder. A web page shows a photo of a school library with no alternative text. Write suitable alternative text and explain when it is read.
Show answer
Example: “Students reading at long tables in the school library.” It is read by screen readers for people who cannot see the image, and shown if the image fails to load. It should describe the purpose of the image, not say “image of”.

Where are the longer practice sets?
Each module has its own mixed practice with explanations, such as spreadsheet formulas practice, database queries practice and file organisation practice. For the ideas behind the words, use the terminology guide, and log each miss in your revision plan. A teacher can go further with you through online one-to-one ICT tuition.
