Check whether a new 2027 requirement applies to the learner

A friend, a book or a website mentions a change for the newer course, and you are not sure whether it applies to you.

On this page
  1. What are the two courses?
  2. How do you run the check?
  3. Worked example
  4. The mistake to watch for
  5. Check yourself
  6. Where this leads next

To check whether a 2027 requirement applies to you, find your exam year, find the course code your centre has entered you for, and read that syllabus page. Do not rely on a summary from a friend or a book. This skill matters because Cambridge identifies Business 0264 for first assessment in 2027, while Business Studies 0450 remains the code for its applicable examination years.

This lesson closes the module on technology, quality and sustainability. The bigger picture is in the 0450 to 0264 transition.

What are the two courses?

Business Studies 0450 and Business 0264 are two Cambridge IGCSE courses for the same subject area. The Cambridge Business page identifies 0264 for first assessment in 2027. Which one a student sits depends on the exam year and entry, so one rule applies: the syllabus for your exam year is the one that counts.

This page does not list differences between the courses. The syllabus pages are the right place for that, and the syllabus-version comparison viewer and the 0264 code guide can help you find the right sections.

How do you run the check?

  1. Write down your exam year. Be specific about the year, and ask your centre which series you are entered for.
  2. Ask your exam centre which code you are entered for. The centre handles entries, not us.
  3. Open the matching Cambridge page. Use the 0450 page or the 0264 page, not a third-party summary.
  4. Find the topics that match this module. Look for the content on technology, quality and sustainability and compare the wording with the lessons here.
  5. Date your notes. Write the code and year on the first page of your revision file.
  6. Recheck before the exam year. Cambridge pages can be updated, so confirm again later.

Worked example

Three fictional students ask the same question.

Hafiz in Kuantan is sitting his exam in the October/November series of 2026. His exam year is before 2027, so the first assessment of 0264 does not cover his entry. He should check the 0450 page and confirm the code with his centre.

Mei Ling in Penang will sit in May/June 2027. 2027 is the year Cambridge names for first assessment of 0264. She should read the 0264 page and ask her centre which code covers her series.

Kumar in Kuching is in Form 4 in 2027 and plans to sit in 2028. He should read the 0264 page too, and ask his centre which code his year will use.

In each case the steps are the same. The year decides which page to open, and the centre confirms the entry.

The mistake to watch for

A common slip is to treat the word “new” as either “everything changed” or “nothing changed”.

Mistaken answer: “Business has a new 2027 course, so all my old notes are useless.” Or the opposite: “It is the same subject, so nothing is different.”

Both are guesses. The only way to know is to compare your notes with the syllabus page for your exam year.

The correction is to check topic by topic. Many skills in this module, such as describing a process change or testing a claim with evidence, are useful whichever course you sit. What may differ is wording and emphasis, and you can only see that on the syllabus page.

Check yourself

Try these on paper, then open each answer.

1. A student sits her exam in 2026. Which Cambridge page should she check first, and who confirms her entry?

Show answer

She should check the 0450 page, because her exam year is before the first assessment of 0264. Her exam centre confirms her entry.

2. Write two things you should note on the first page of your revision file.

Show answer

The course code (0450 or 0264) and the exam year, with the date you last checked the Cambridge page. This keeps notes tied to the right syllabus.

3. A classmate says ‘a certain topic was removed in 2027’. What should you do?

Show answer

Do not accept it yet. Open the Cambridge syllabus page for your exam year, find the topic list, and check. If it is still unclear, ask your teacher or your exam centre.

Where this leads next

Use the Business 2027 change guide for the full list of what to verify, and the 0450 and 0264 clinic page if you are unsure which wording applies. Then try the mixed practice set.

Students often study hard for the wrong syllabus version, or worry about a change they have not checked. Our teachers can help you plan around the answer in online one-to-one Business tuition.

Questions people ask

Which Cambridge Business code applies to my exam?

Cambridge lists Business Studies 0450 and Business 0264. The blueprint for this site notes that 0264 is identified for first assessment in 2027. Which code applies to you depends on your exam year and entry, so check the Cambridge pages and confirm with your exam centre.

Will the topics in this module change under 0264?

Check it with Cambridge and your centre. Cambridge words the content differently between the two courses, so open the syllabus for your exam year, find the section on technology, quality and sustainability, and compare it with this module.

Who enters me for the exam and tells me which code to use?

Your exam centre, usually your school or a private candidate centre, handles entries and tells you which syllabus you are entered for. We teach online and are not an exam centre, so entry, results and access arrangements stay with your centre and Cambridge.
